WHAT IS HTML?
HTML which stands for Hyper Text Markup
Language, is the predominant markup language for
web pages. It provides a means to create
structured documents by denoting structural
semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs,
lists etc as well as for links, quotes, and
other items. It allows images and objects to be
embedded and can be used to create interactive
forms. HTML is written in the form of elements
consisting of "tags" surrounded by angle
brackets within the source code of the web page
content. It can include or can load scripts in
languages such as JavaScript which affect the
behavior of HTML processors like Web browsers.
WHAT IS FLASH?
Flash is a vector animation software, originally
designed to create animations for display on web
pages. Vector graphics are ideal for the web
because they are so lightweight and load fast
considering all that is going on. Flash
intelligently ‘caches’ it’s movies so they don’t
have to be reloaded. Flash gives the user (the
person viewing/using the Flash movie) a more
responsive ‘rich-client’ like experience.
HOW MUCH FLASH SHOULD I USE?
I see Flash being used selectively to enhance an
HTML based site. I call them Flash Accents. This
way you have both working for you. HTML contains
all text and content needed for the search
engines to read starting at the home page and
reading content throughout the site (if your
site is built correctly). A site built ENTIRELY
in Flash is not read well by search engines and
takes a great deal more time and money to
develop and also once it is done, it is more
time consuming and costly to make small changes
than simpler HTML based sites do. Again, I
recommend if using Flash that you "Accent" them
selectively into an HTML based site.
WHAT IS JAVASCRIPT?
JavaScript is an object-oriented scripting
language used to enable programmatic access to
objects within both the client application and
other applications. It is primarily used in the
form of client-side JavaScript, implemented as
an integrated component of the web browser,
allowing the development of enhanced user
interfaces and dynamic websites. JavaScript is a
dialect of the ECMAScript standard and is
characterized as a dynamic, weakly typed,
prototype-based language with first-class
functions. JavaScript was influenced by many
languages and was designed to look like Java,
but to be easier for non-programmers to work
with.
WHAT IS PHP?
PHP is a recursive acronym for Hypertext
Preprocessor. It is a widely-used open source
general-purpose scripting language that is
especially suited for web development and can be
embedded into HTML. PHP pages contain HTML
with embedded PHP code that tells that part of
the page to "do something" like sophisticated
interaction elements or many other types of
functions. The PHP code is enclosed in special
start and end processing instructions <?php and
?> that allow you to jump into and out of "PHP
mode."
What distinguishes PHP from something like
client-side JavaScript is that the code is
executed on the server, generating HTML which is
then sent to the client. The client would
receive the results of running that script, but
would not know what the underlying code was.
WHAT IS ASP?
Active Server Pages or Classic ASP, as it is
more commonly known, is a technology that
enables you to make dynamic and interactive web
pages. ASP uses server-side scripting to
dynamically produce web pages that are not
affected by the type of browser the web site
visitor is using. ASP pages have the extension
.asp instead of .html, when a page with the
extension .asp is requested by a browser the web
server knows to interpret any ASP contained
within the web page before sending the HTML
produced to the browser. This way all the ASP is
run on the web server and no ASP will ever be
passed to the web browser. Any web pages
containing ASP cannot be run by just simply
opening the page in a web browser. The page must
be requested through a web server that supports
ASP, this is why ASP stands for Active Server
Pages, no server, no active pages.
WHAT IS WEB HOSTING?
Simply, it's web storage on remote servers, A
web server is a machine that hosts web sites and
allows Internet users to access these web sites
24 hours a day. A mail server is a machine
which, along with the storage and management of
email messages, provides service to email users
who can read, retrieve, and manage these emails
messages.
WHAT IS SHARED HOSTING?
Shared Hosting stacks hundreds of clients on a
server which provides more bog and stress and slower speeds. Resource intensive and
uncontrolled sites add to that problem. RogueWeb
does not use this type of server..See our
services section.
WHAT IS E-COMMERCE?
Electronic commerce, commonly known as
(electronic marketing) e-commerce or eCommerce,
consists of the buying and selling of products
or services over electronic systems such as the
Internet and other computer networks. The amount
of trade conducted electronically has grown
extraordinarily with widespread Internet usage.
The use of commerce is conducted in this way,
spurring and drawing on innovations in
electronic funds transfer, supply chain
management, Internet marketing, online
transaction processing, electronic data
interchange (EDI), inventory management systems,
and automated data collection systems. Modern
electronic commerce typically uses the World
Wide Web at least at some point in the
transaction's lifecycle, although it can
encompass a wider range of technologies such as
e-mail as well.
A large percentage of electronic commerce is
conducted entirely electronically for virtual
items such as access to premium content on a
website, but most electronic commerce involves
the transportation of physical items in some
way. Online retailers are sometimes known as e-tailers
and online retail is sometimes known as e-tail.
Almost all big retailers have electronic
commerce presence on the World Wide Web.
