Why Move to Southern Oregon....
Southern Oregon, and the Grants Pass Area in particular, is one of the best kept
secrets around. The common misconception among folks in other states is
that it just "rains all the time". We often explain to some of our former
neighbors in California that Grants Pass frequently experiences less rain then they do.
What we don't always say, however, is that even though we have mild winters, we do get to
experience the four seasons.
Our Springtime is a rejuvenation of nature. Wild flowers seem to blossom overnight.
And....the green in the grasses and the new leaves on the trees, just knock your socks off
each April. Summer is wonderful, --just the right combination of influences from the
cooler sea coast to the West and the warm "high desert" to the East. But, the
fall is the greatest! Our leaves turn the most brilliant shades of red, gold, and yellow
that you've ever seen. Many folks have stated "I've been to New England in the Fall,
but this is better".
Grants Pass is the kick off point for many a memorable rafting trip down the Rogue
River. Why, from our front door, we can be in our little raft for an exciting ride down
the river in just 10 minutes! We've done it lots of times, and each experience is
different from the last. The river changes constantly, and the wildlife is always an
adventure. On various trips, we have seen a mother bear and her cub, and American
Bald Eagle swooping low over the waters, a
four foot long cougar taking a drink, salmon and trout jumping all the way out of the
water for tasty bugs, more deer and elk than we can count, and wonderful and graceful
hawks, Ospreys, owls, kingfishers, and just a whole lot. of really pretty birds.
We can't tell you how often we have talked with a new arrival, and each will say
" I wake up each morning, and all I do is smile". This is no exaggeration. Our
house guests always comment on how friendly everyone is, from clerks in the stores, to
government clerks, to officers on patrol, and especially from strangers on the street
anxious to help.
